Falafel is also known as Ta'mmiya in the Middle East, a fried ball made up of chickpeas, served as a Sandwich with salad, pickles and tahini sauce inside a pitta bread.

Ingredients

  • Chickpeas, soak in water over night 200g
  • Coriander seeds 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Onion 1 cup
  • Garlic 1 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves 1/2 bunch
  • Green chilies, chopped 4
  • Lemon juice 3 tbsp
  • Black pepper 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli flakes 1-1/2 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Baking soda 1 tsp
  • Semolina 3-4 tbsp
  • For Tahini Dip:
  • Tahini paste 4 tbsp
  • Yogurt 1 cup
  • Lemon juice 2 tbsp
  • Garlic 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Cooking Directions

  1. Blend chickpeas, onion, coriander leaves, green chillies, garlic, red chilli powder, black pepper powder, cumin seeds, salt, lemon juice and little water in a blender.

  2. Blend well. Transfer this blended mixture in a separate bowl.

  3. Add semolina and mix well.

  4. Give them shape like kabab and fry till golden brown.

  5. For Tahini Dip: Blend tahini paste, lemon juice, garlic paste, salt and yogurt in a blender.

  6. Serve falafel, with salad, pickles, inside a pocketed pitta bread.
