Ingredients

  • Masoor ki dal 200 gms
  • Meat(with bones) 200 gms
  • Shahzeera 1/2 tsp
  • Laung 2-3
  • Elaichi(whole) 2-3
  • Dalchini(1") 3-4 stick
  • Tamarind(with juice) lemon size
  • Tomatoes(cut into pcs) 2
  • Coriander leaves 1/4 cup
  • Fresh pudina leaves 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder 1/2 tbsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Onion(sliced) 1 medium size
  • Veg cooking oil 3-4 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • For the Bhagar:
  • Zeera-rye 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves 6-8
  • Onion(thinly sliced) 1 small
  • Ghee 2 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  • Wash and pressure cook the dal with -4 cups of water. Keep it aside.
    In a heavy bottom vessel, heat the oil, fry onion till golden brown.
    Add turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste and tomatoes.
    Lower the heat and fry for 2-3 minutes.
    Add the meat pieces, fry a little.
    Add 3-4 cups of water and cover the vessel with a lid.
    Cook till the meat becomes tender.
    Then add the tamarind juice, cooked dal, half of the coriander leaves, pudina leaves, garam masala consisting of shahzeera, dalchini, laung and elaichi.
    Add 2 more cups of water and cook till the gravy becomes medium thick.
    For Bhagar:
    Heat a kadai, add ghee, zeera rye.
    When it crackles, add sliced onion & curry leaves & fry till onion becomes golden brown.
    Pour this over the dalcha and serve hot with rice or chapathis.

    1. LOL you really don't know what DALCHA is, do you? There is NO garam masala in Dalcha, how come you guys become expert in dishes that are not your domain or forte? Jo bhi bana dou jo marzi hai keh lo. Please gimme a break for heavens sake, neither corriander leaves nor Podina is used and no Elayechi LOL @ Elayechi in DALCHA? The only tarka you give is with Karya Paat or Curry Patta NOT bay leaves, zeera, laal mirch. You add laoki, and baingan egg plants and IMLI ka thick juice. Period. Consistency is more important, it should not be too watery and it should not be too thick. Good Luck
