Ingredients

  • Split gram lentils 250 grams
  • Onion 2
  • Oil 3 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Carom seeds ½ tsp
  • Dry red chili 4-5
  • Ginger 1 medium sized piece (chopped)
  • Garlic clove 4 – 5 (chopped)
  • Red Chili powder 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder 1 tsp
  • All spice powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric 1 tsp
  • Spinach 1 bunch (chopped)
  • Green chili 3 – 4 (chopped)
  • Coriander leaves ¼ bunch (chopped)
  • Tamarind paste 2 tbsp
  • Salt as required

Cooking Directions

  1. Soak gram lentils for one and a half hours.

  2. Then boil it in fresh water till it softens and keep aside.

  3. Slice onions. Heat oil, add mustard seeds, carom seeds, red chilies and sauté for a few minutes.

  4. Add ginger, garlic and fry till it gets golden in color.

  5. Add sliced onion, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, all spice powder and turmeric and sauté well.

  6. When the onion softens add spinach.

  7. Add green chilies, coriander leaves and tamarind paste and sauté for 2 minutes.

  8. When the spinach softens add boiled gram lentils and salt and sauté on medium flame.

  9. Delicious Spiced Daal Palak is ready to serve.
