  • Rice 50 gms
  • Split blacl lentils (Urad dal) 50 gms
  • Gram lentils (Chana dal) 75 gms
  • Yellow lentils (Moong dal) 75 gms
  • Shelled peas 75 gms
  • Coconut 1/2
  • Green chillies 4
  • Ginger 1" piece
  • Oil as needed
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Soda bi-carb 1 tsp
  • Lemon 1
  • Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves 6
  • Scarp coconut 1/2
  • Coriander leaves 2 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Soak rice and split black lentils separately for 4-5 hours.

  2. Then grind the rice a little coarsely and the lentils finely.

  3. Mix in salt, soda bi-carb and 3/4 cup water. Keep aside.

  4. Grind the peas, green chillies and ginger finely.

  5. Heat a little oil and cook peas on low flame after adding salt and sugar.

  6. Grind the gram and yellow lentils finely.

  7. Add salt, turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp soda bi-carb, juice of 1 lemon and mix.

  8. In a vessel put a layer of the gram-yellow lentils mixture.

  9. It should be 1/2" high. Steam gently for 5-7 minutes.

  10. Add a layer of peas on top and then the rice-split black lentils layer.

  11. Steam gently till ready. When cool, cut into pieces.

  12. Fry mustard seeds and curry leaves in a little oil, add to the dhoklas.

  13. Add chopped coriander and grated coconut before serving.
