  • Chicken 500g
  • Onion 2 medium
  • Ginger1"piece
  • Garlic 3-4 cloves
  • Cashew nuts 5-6
  • Poppy seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Thick fresh yogurt 1 cup (beaten)
  • Salt to taste
  • Nutmeg powder a pinch
  • White pepper powder 1/2 tsp or as per taste
  • Oil 3 tbsp
  • Ghee 3 tbsp
  • Whole dry chilies 3-4
  • Whole clove 4-5
  • Whole green cardamom 2
  • Whole black cardamom 1
  • Cinnamon 2" stick
  • Peppercorns 6-8
  • Kewra water few drops

Cooking Directions

  1. Peel, chop and grind the onion, ginger and garlic to make a smooth paste.

  2. Soak the cashew nuts in ¼ cup water and make a smooth paste with poppy seeds.

  3. Marinade chicken with onion paste, yogurt, salt, nutmeg powder and white pepper powder. Set aside for 2 hours.

  4. Heat the oil and ghee. Add whole dry chilies, clove, whole green cardamom, whole black cardamom and cinnamon. Sizzle until an aroma comes.

  5. Add the marinade chicken. Cover and cook until chicken turns to white about 8-10 minutes.

  6. Now add the poppy seeds paste and peppercorns. Cook for a minute and pour 3/4 cup warm water. Check the seasoning and cover. Let it simmer on low heat till oil starts to float on top and the chicken is cooked through.

  7. Uncover and add keowra water, mix and dish out. Serve with naan or tandori roti.
