  • Coriander seeds 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds ( Mehti dana) 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilies 2-3 whole
  • Whole black pepper 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds 1/4 tsp
  • For Rasam soup:
  • Red lentils (Masoor Dal) 1/2 cup
  • Tamarind 1/4 cup
  • Curry Leaves a few
  • Green Coriander Leaves 1/2 bunch
  • Salt to taste
  • Water 4 cup
  • For Tarka (Tempering):
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Asafetida (hing) a pinch
  • Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Garlic Cloves Mashed 2 cloves

Cooking Directions

  1. First prepare the Rasam powder.

  2. Roast the ingredients on low flame.

  3. Let it cool down. Grind to fine powder.

  4. Soak tamarind in water for 15 minutes, get the pulp 1 cup water.

  5. Cook the lentils in 2 cup of water, till it is soft.

  6. Take deep cooking pot, add 1 cup water, and add rasam powder and tamarind water.

  7. Mash the cooked lentils, add to the mixture, boil for 5 minutes add salt and more water if needed, and boil further for 5 minutes.

  8. Take a frying pan, pour 1 table spoon oil and heat it.

  9. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, when they stop cracking add asafetida and turmeric powder, curry leaves. Add to ready Rasam and cover the pot.

  10. Rasam is ready. Serve with hot steamed rice.
