Murgh-e-Nawabi is a chicken curry dish from Lucknow cuisine which is rich in ingredients. Marinated in yoghurt and spices, cooked with saffron, flavoured with raisins and garnished with boiled eggs it is a truly a lavish dish.

  • Chicken 1
  • Boiled eggs 3-4
  • All spices powder 1-1/2 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Onion 1 large or 2 small
  • Whole red chillies 5-6
  • Raisins 1/2 cup
  • Aniseed 2 tbsp
  • Saffron+soaked in some milk
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • Yogurt 1 cup
  • Oil

Cooking Directions

  1. Marinate chicken in yogurt/curd, ginger garlic paste for 1-1/2 hours.

  2. Put onion, aniseed, whole red chillies and some water grind and make paste.

  3. In a pan heat oil add ground paste and  fry till brown.

  4. Add marinated chicken and cook.

  5. Put salt, all spices powder and raisins fry well.

  6. Add saffron and some water to make gravy.

  7. Lower heat and cover with lid for a few minutes.

  8. Garnish with boiled eggs and green coriander.

  9. Serve hot with naan or chapaties.
