Ingredients

  • Sunflower oil 1 tbsp
  • Black mustard seeds 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Fresh curry leaves 10-12
  • Urad dhal(dried) 1 tsp
  • Onions(halved & sliced) 2
  • Red chillies(dried) 2
  • Turmeric 1 tsp
  • Green cabbage(shredded) 500 g
  • Water 100 ml
  • Salt
  • Coconut(freshly grated) to garnish

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a large, nonstick frying pan over a medium heat.

  2. Add the mustard seeds and when they start to 'pop' add the curry leaves and urad dhal.

  3. Stir fry for 2-3 minutes or until the dhal starts to brown.

  4. Stir in the onions and red chillies.

  5. Cook over a high heat, stirring often, for 4-5 minutes or until the onions soften.

  6. Add the turmeric and cabbage and stir and cook for 2-3 minutes.

  7. Add the measured water, cover and cook gently for 5-7 minutes or until the cabbage has softened, but still retains a bite.

  8. Season and serve immediately, sprinkle with freshly grated coconut.
