Ingredients

  • Yellow lentils 2 cups (soaked for 4 hours)
  • Ginger 1 inch piece (chopped)
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Baking soda 1 tsp (leveled)
  • Red pepper 1 tsp (crushed)
  • Cumin seed 1 tsp
  • Oil 2 cups
  • Yogurt 1 kg
  • Sugar 4 tbsp heaped
  • Salt ½ tsp
  • Chat masala 1 tsp
  • Tamarind chutney ½ cup
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

Cooking Directions

  1. Strain yellow lentils then grind in blender with chopped ginger, ¼ cup water, salt, baking powder, crushed red pepper and cumin .

  2. Now beat mixture very well with electric hand beater till mixture frothy.

  3. Heat oil in a skillet for deep frying.

  4. Wet the palm of your left hand, with left hand make dumplings with lentils batter, press lightly, deep fry 5 to 6 at a time on medium flame till light golden.

  5. Remove and dip in luke warm water for 15 minutes.

  6. Remove from water and press out water.

  7. Beat yogurt with sugar, salt and arrange dumplings in flat dish.

  8. Pour the yogurt on the dumplings.

  9. Sprinkle chat masala and tamarind chutney and garnish with coriander leaves.
