This traditional tart from Austria is filled with home-made jam. Together with the walnut pastry, it is a deliciously sweet mouth-watering combination.

  • For Pastry dough:
  • Soft butter 100 gm
  • Fine sugar 100 gm
  • Cinnamon stick 1 inch
  • Cloves 2
  • Egg white 1
  • Ground walnuts 100 gm
  • Flour 125 gm
  • For Filling:
  • Plum or strawberry jam 4-5 servings

Cooking Directions

  1. Thoroughly grease a spring form, measuring about 23-26 cm in diameter.

  2. Keep ready. Preheat the oven.

  3. Beat together butter and sugar until smooth.

  4. Add in ground cinnamon and cloves, mix.

  5. Add egg white while mixing and mix in walnuts.

  6. Add flour in the end and press together in to a dough and refrigerate for an hour.

  7. Place the base of the spring form together with dough into a plastic bag, roll over the plastic bag with the rolling pressing the dough into the base about 3/4 cm thick.

  8. Remove plastic, cut overlapping dough away and attach the rim to the base.

  9. Make a thin roll from the rest of the dough, leaving some for the decoration.

  10. Place the roll around the inner side of the rim and with a fork press the roll down to make a rim.

  11. For Filling: Fill the tart with jam.

  12. Use a biscuit cutter and cut out some stars from the remaining dough.

  13. Place decoratively on the jam filling.

  14. Bake in medium hot oven for about 40 minutes or until the dough is light brown.
