bullet Urad dal 50 gms
bullet Chana dal 75 gms
bullet Moong dal 75 gms
bullet Shelled peas 75 gms
bullet Coconut (grated) 1/2
bullet Green chillies 4
bullet Ginger 1" piece
bullet Oil as needed
bullet Salt to taste
bullet Sugar 1 tsp
bullet Turmeric powder 1 tsp
bullet Soda bi-carb 1 tsp
bullet Lemon 1
bullet Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
bullet Curry leaves 6
bullet Scarped coconut 1/2
bullet Coriander leaves 2 tbsps
  • Soak rice and urad dal separately for 4-5 hours. Then grind the rice a little coarsely and the dal finely. Mix in salt, soda bi-carb and 3/4 cup water. Keep aside.
  • Grind the peas, green chillies and ginger finely. Heat a little oil and cook peas on low flame after adding salt and sugar. Grind the chana and moong dal finely.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp. soda bi-carb, juice of 1 lemon and mix. In a vessel put a layer of the chana-moong dal mixture. It should be 1/2" high.
  • Steam gently for 5-7 minutes. Add a layer of peas on top and then the rice-urad dal layer. Steam gently till ready. When cool, cut into pieces.
  • Fry mustard seeds and curry leaves in a little oil, add to the dhoklas.
  • Add chopped coriander and grated coconut before serving.
