bullet River fish (preferably hilsa) 1
bullet Turmeric powder 1 tsp
bullet Grated coconut 1/2 cup
bullet Mustard 1 tsp
bullet Mustard oil 1/2 cup
bullet Green chillies 3
bullet Salt to taste

Grind:

bullet Mustard 1/2 tsp
bullet Green chillies 2
bullet Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
bullet Salt to taste
  • Cut and wash the fish and apply salt and turmeric powder. The fish should be in 1-2" long pieces.
  • Keep the ground green chillies, turmeric powder and salt near the gas flame as heat gives it a sharper taste. Mix this paste with the fish pieces. Check seasoning.
  • Mix grated coconut with ground mustard, chopped chillies, turmeric powder and a little salt. Put this layer over the fish.
  • Pour raw mustard oil liberally over it.
  • Garnish with a few slit green chillies and steam till tender.
