bullet The head of any large fish (preferably rohu)
bullet Chana dal 1 cup
bullet Turmeric powder and salt 1 tsp each
bullet Bay leaves 2
bullet Finely chopped tomatoes 2
bullet Sugar according to taste
bullet Mustard oil as needed
bullet Garam masala a pinch

Grind:

bullet Onions 2
bullet Ginger 1/2“ piece
bullet Red chillies 5
bullet Cloves of garlic 6
bullet Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Boil chana dal. Heat oil and brown the head of the fish (rohu) with turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside.
  • Grind onions, ginger, garlic, cumin seeds and red chillies. Heat ghee in a pan, put in bay leaves, fish head, salt, finely chopped tomatoes and a little sugar.
  • Add a little water. When nearly done add the dal. Cook. When ready, add a seasoning of whole garam masala and serve with rice.
