bullet Chana dal 1 cup
bullet Potatoes 2
bullet Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
bullet Tomatoes (chopped) 3
bullet Sugar 1/2 tsp
bullet Garam masala 1/2 tsp
bullet Asafoetida a pinch
bullet Salt to taste
bullet Oil as needed

Grind:

bullet Onion 1
bullet Ginger 1/2“ piece
bullet Cloves of garlic 5
bullet Cumin seeds 1 tsp
bullet Coriander 1 tsp
bullet Chillies 5
  • Soak chana dal for 10-12 hours. Grind it with onions and other ingredients given for grinding. Heat oil in a pan, add a pinch of asafoetida and then the ground dal.
  • Cook well on low flame. Then spread it in a greased thali. Leave for a few minutes. Cut into diamond shapes and deep fry.
  • Chop potatoes lengthwise and deep fry. Heat 2 tbsps. oil in a pan. Put in turmeric powder, chopped tomatoes, salt and a little sugar.
  • Cook for a few minutes. Put in the fried potatoes. When tender, add the fried dal pieces. Put a little garam masala before serving.
  • The pieces should not break and the gravy, should be very thick.
