Chana dal 250 gms
Mustard and fenugreek seeds 1/4 tsp each
Onion seeds 1/4 tsp
Ajwain 1/8 tsp
Aniseeds 1/4 tsp
Whole red chillies 4
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Sugar 1 tsp
Bay leaves 2
Ghee 1 tbsp
Onion 1
Salt to taste
Boil the dal and keep aside. Heat ghee and fry 1 chopped onion to a golden brown.
Add the above masalas and when they start spluttering, put in the dal, turmeric powder, salt, sugar and bay leaves.
Cook till well blended.
